Why pay, when you can get your taxes done for free?

Before using a commercial tax preparer, find out if you are elligible for free tax preparation at the YWCA Malden. Call us at 781-322-3760. Priority will be given to any woman or family who is associated with the YWCA through membership, volunteer work, child care services clients, after school program participants or YWCA residents.

You could be eligible! Make sure you claim ALL your tax credits. For example, did you work in 2010? You may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. If so, you'll owe less in taxes and you could get cash back. Even if you don't owe income tax, you can get the EITC .

• Were you raising one child in your home in 2010? Did your family earn less than $35,463? You could get an EITC up to $3,043.
• Were you raising more than one child in your home in 2010? Did your family earn less than $40,295? You could get an EITC up to $5,028.
• If you weren't raising a child, did you earn less than $13,440 in 2010? Were you between the ages 25 and 64? You could get an EITC up to $457.

If you are married, the income limit is $5,000 higher than the amounts listed above. Many married workers will get a larger EITC.

Malden Tax Partnership Another local resource is the VITA site (Volunteer Income Tax Clinic). It is setup to assist low income individuals and ESL taxpayers at the Cyber Cafe in Malden by appointment. You may contact the partnership at 866-833-2823.

Bentley College has a Low Income and ESL Taxpayer Clinic. They are equiped to help immigrants who want to file taxes for the first time, or any low income taxpayer who has a controversial tax case to resolve with the IRS.
